Blog Assignment One
You have just embarked on a brand new journey; the high school experience. Believe me, you will survive, if not excel. Talk to me about your experience so far. What has four days of high school revealed to you about this environment? I would like to hear about your feelings, your expectations, your hopes, your apprehensions. Would do you like about it; what could you do without (besides your English teacher)? Please be as frank as possible and, as always, remember our forum.

My experience in high school has been great so far. I have met many new people and have learned much about college and being admitted. I have learned about biology and little creatures called paramecia, and I have learned about Spanish and the challenge of Spanish 3. I hope to learn lots more in my high school years and excel in all of my classes.
ReplyDeleteOn the first day of high school last week i was very unsure of what to do or even what would happen. Even though i was unsure i just thought to myself whatever happens will happen and i will fix it on the way. So with that on my mind i have been happily learning about spanish biology algebra and of course english. all of it has been interesting but i could do without so much biology.
ReplyDeleteNicolas i can really relate to you i have almost the same scheduale and see you in most classes. For me i hope to excel in spanish 3 i have heard from others how hard that class is and and i am learning first hand that it is very difficult.
Ryan, I really understand what you said about making mistakes. No one is perfect and never will be, and I might make many or few mistakes in High School. However, I always have time to correct them in each semester.
ReplyDeleteMy journey in high school has been great so far. I was only afraid of the first day of high school because I had no clue what to expect. The only thing I expected to go wrong was not finding my classes. Instead, I asked around and some older students helped me out. This showed me that the students here were very helpful and generous. I've learned that high school is not that bad except for the homework. I expect it to get more challenging as the days go on but I guess thats what high school is all about. I just hope I can learn as much as I can in my classes and get good grades to go to college.
ReplyDeleteNicolas I can relate to you because I have also learned about paramecia in biology. I also hope to learn more in high school and do well in my classes. I have met new people as well and they have been helpful to me by showing me where my classes are. High school has been great for both of us.
Ryan I can relate to you because I was also unsure of what would happen in high school. I didn't know if I would be able to overcome it. Biology has been challenging for me as well so far. I expect all my classes to get hard as school goes on but I know I will get use to it.
On the first day of high school I was both excited and nervous, but in no way was i scared! It's true I got lost on my way to find lunch but I know I will come to learn more about our new school and avoid that problem. In the time I was here I realized that some teachers tend to be extremely strict while others are trying to make class fun and help you learn something without being scary. I do love all of my teachers but I think I could live without so much biology homework. Geography too, is a little bit confusing but I know I can persevere and get through it. I hope that this school can help me get into the college that I want, and I also hope that I can have fun with this too!
ReplyDeleteDominic, I can relate to you because I got really lost and I had to ask around to find my classes. I hope we come to know our school like the back of our hands!!
ReplyDeleteNicolas, I hope I excel in my classes too because I know how important these years are, and how they will effect us in the future. so I hope we both work hard and excel in many ways!
ReplyDeleteHigh school, high school, high school! These first couple of days at high school were exciting, overwhelming, and nerve racking. I have already made new friends and have reconnected with the ones that left middle school a year before me. The first day I asked two fiends who are sophmores and juniors for directions. They helped me find my way and I know where to go now. The overwhelming part of high school is how much bigger it is than middle school. I like all of my teachers and hope to excede expectations. Today was my first water polo game and we lost 8-4, but it is always a learning experience so I now know what our team needs to succeed.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to Audrey because I also lost my way the first day. I could really use less biology because we are moving really fast and already have a test. I also agree that some of my teachers like to make class fun, while others just get to the point with no questions asked.
I agree with Dom because I believe with the classes I am taking, I am on track to do well and go to any college I choose. It is also about staying well rounded and having extra curricular activities.
Ryan, I too had trouble navigating the labrynth that is ESHS. I ran, sprinted and jumped to find the right class at the right time, but now I have a pretty good idea of my schedule. Along the way, I got to learn some fancy phrases in Spanish 3 and a few college tips from Ms. Gerber. Alas, we are not clones because I enjoy biology. Learning about life fascinates me. See you at school buddy.
ReplyDeleteHigh school, a 9 letters that are already making me want to explode. Sure, I get a future out of it, but at what cost? I am losing my hair from all the work that I have received in 4 DAYS. Even though my work is freaking me out, I am happy with all of my teachers. I have learned to speak some awesome spanish and get into Cornell. I look forward to an incredible challenge with as few casualties as possible. ESHS, BRING IT ON!!
ReplyDeleteNick, I totally get what you are laying down. I want to excel in all of my classes from grades 9-12 as well as learning to live on my own. With the help of spanish, english, biology, etc., my life is on the right path. I have already learned some cool vocab all around, latitudes and longitudes, along with some mathematical theories. The way school is going, I cannot wait for the rest of the year, except maybe the homework. See you around.
ReplyDeleteHigh school...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't really sure what to expect when going into high school. I didn’t know if I would like it or hate it. High school is totally different than the middle school and that is going to take some getting used to. The campus is much bigger, the bell schedule is different, and now we have sports. Some of the changes I like and others I don't care for that much. Since I am totally into volleyball, having sports at the high school is a major plus. Having a big a campus is a negative, because some of your classes are on the other side of the school, and you have to stop to get your books and other materials for your classes. I know that there will be more high school experiences to come, and some of them will be good and bad.
Tyler,
ReplyDeleteI completely understand what you mean. I didn’t even realize what high school meant until now. I thought that it was going to be like every other year, but its not. The homework load is amazing, and it is only the first couple of days. I can’t even imagine how it is going to be later on in the school year.
Audrey,
ReplyDeleteI got lots too… on my way to Ms. Gerber’s class. I went up and down the hall looking at all the classes and somehow, I missed it every time. Luckily there were some other students around or I definitely would have been late.
We will know everything about the school by the end of the year, and soon we will be one of those people that helped us find our way.
Riley Middough,
ReplyDeleteSo far I have had a outstanding time at high school. I like all my teachers (so far). At first it was complete chaos, but then I learned where my classes were and then it calmed down a notch. The one thing I do not like is how crowded the hallways get during passing period. I hope that I do succeed this year. I want to do well.
Brandi Freeman,
ReplyDeleteHigh school for me has been a interesting experience so far. I thought there would be more people at lunch but surprisingly, there isn't. I already knew I would get lost on the first day even before I stepped foot in El Segundo High and what do you know? I ended up sitting in the wrong class for about half an hour. Even though I got lost the first 2 or 3 days, I still love the experience. I like the idea of meeting new people and taking different types of classes so I can learn new things. I love the fact that there are a variety of people and not just the same people every day like in middle school. I also just love the fact of getting out of middle school and having better teachers and lockers in high school. I am looking forward to a great and memorable time in high school. I know that the year will get more challenging as it progresses, but I know I will be able to handle it.
High School, wow!!
ReplyDeleteThese past four days have really changed everything. I mean for the first time, I have actually stopped, sat back, and said, "This is going to be harder than I thought." That doesn't mean that High School is going to be difficult, it just means that it'll be chanllenging. One of those challenges is trying to find all of my classes. During this past week, I have constantly had a hard time trying to find my classes. Coming in, I don't think I really had any real expectations. Actually, I think that High School is pretty great. Everyone here has been really nice and the teachers are alright. (Though some of them are a little creepy!) I also love how most people are into sports and that they don't have to be an extra- curricular activty.
But along with these great pros, come the cons. I have to say that the size of this school is going take some getting used to. Like everyone has said before, it's so different from ESMS. But I'm looking forward to a wonderful four- year career in this High School.
Dom, I can agree with you because I didn't know what to expect on the first day either. I didn't know if there would be only 9th graders in my class or all grades in some of my classes. I can also relate to him knowing that he wouldn't be able to find his classes because I knew for a fact that I would get lost and not be able to find my classes.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to Audrey because I can live to without so much biology homework. The chapter notes take too long sometimes and it can get a little confusing. I also agree that geography can get confusing at times.
ReplyDeleteRiley,
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the crowded hallways. You just can't get anywhere! It's like traffic during rush hour where you're just barely creeping along. A couple of times, I was almost late to my classes because it was so bad.
But as the year progresses, I'm sure that the halls will be less trafficked and things will move faster.
I think that I can also relate with everyone about the homework. I would perfer that there would be less biology homework. (Especially when you've missed most of the class.) But I guess that we'll all get used to it as the year progresses on.
ReplyDeleteBefore I write my 4 day story, Tyler, high school is 10 letters.
ReplyDeleteThe first few days have actually not been too bad. I agree with everyone because the worst part has been the homework. I agree with Tyler because biology has not been that bad. The worst class is definetly geometry because I have forgotten all the hard chapters from Algebra. I don't mind the crowded hallways because I see alot of my friends, I also have not gotten lost and am always able to find my classes. I really like how at ESHS we are allowed to listen to our I-Pods during lunch because it is nice to take a break from hard work and just listen from
ReplyDeleteMF DOOM (best musical artist of all time.)
The first few days have been a blast. It's always nice to get back in touch with some of your friends. Some things I have learned about the environment is that the hallways are like a street; there is an invisible line in the middle, and traffic flows the sme way as a street would. Also, plan ahead, and go back to your locker maybe every other period, because going back every period is a schlep. I feel like this year is going to be fun, and I also hope/expect it will be. The best part is that there is much more freedom at ESHS than ESMS becuase you can do whatever you want. The only problem I have is that Mr. Cassette's voice makes me sleepier than Vin Scully does, which is not good for first period.
ReplyDeleteTo the whiners- Bio notes aren't even that hard. Just wait until you just get a lecture and have no text to copy. Then they are hard
Heather,
ReplyDeleteI agree that this (high school) is going to be quite challenging, but it will be manageable.
I also agree with Tyler and Arman. Biology really is not that hard, it just takes a little biy of effort.
Yo It's Ms. G
ReplyDeleteHa! Good one James
ReplyDeleteNice, reflective comments everyone. I think we can make a general comment about the hallways: they blow; and a general comment about homework: double blow. But we can also say that most of you sound so motivated and enthusiastic. Impressive writing skills by many. James, brownie points for shlep. You rule.
ReplyDeleteSavannah Rose,
ReplyDeleteIf there was a manual to high school, I probably should have picked it up because it is a huge difference from middle school. My first day was very hetic trying to find all my classes and getting to know what is expected of me. Walking to my classes was probably one of the most challenging parts of the day because I couldn't walk a foot without being bumped into. But the sun finally shined down on my cloudy day to know that some of my friends were going through the same thing. Since then the classes are still chanllenging, but I'm getting the hang of it. I hope to excel in my classes as I did in middle school. And I'm ready for another great year.
Tyler,
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. And I can truly say that my day is literally wake up, school, practice, another practice, homework, and then sleep. I don't think I have ever been so much tired in my entire life. I'm just glad that I haven't passed out in any of my classes.
Nick,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on the meetin new people. My friends are great and I love them so much, but its defintely cool to meet people. And I can relate to the challenge of Spanish 3. I can understand the matierial, but once Ms. Castoriano calls on me I feel as if I'm back in 6th grade learning how to say the alphabet. And all prior knowledge is gone in a poof.
Yes. I totally agree with Savannah and Tyler. These few days I have had in high school have been quite challenging. I learned that if I stay on track and do my homework right after practice, it eliminates a lot of unnecessary stress.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Nic because I also do my homework first to save time for other activities.
ReplyDeleteMy first few days of high school have been very intresting. For me, daily tasks such as switching classes have become much more painstaking. I was very surprised that i am also so used to this daily routine after only a few days. I have very high hopes for the rest of this year.
ReplyDeleteMs. Gerber,
ReplyDeleteFeel free to change those brownie points in to gangstuh points. I won't mind.
my first days of high school were very easy no homework no stress, no worries. it was very interesting learning the personalities and teaching methods of all of my teacher and of course seeing all of my friends again. I hope this year at ESHS i will learn many new things and make tons of new friends. I have very high expectations for myself.
ReplyDeletei can relate to audrey because i was nervous and excited but definately not scared on the first day of school. I also go lost trying to find my classes but i somehow found them right before the tardy bell rang so my first day was good.
ReplyDeletei agree with james about mr cassete. his voice puts me to sleep as if i was a baby in my crib with a bottle of warm milk by my side. I will have to find a way to stay awake in his class or else that class will be difficult.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that nobody has had a rougher 2nd week than me. i have been sooo sick i cant eat anything and if i do it does not go over well. All i have been eating is saltines for the last 50 some hours and becuase of that i have a TON of homework i have to make up.
ReplyDeleteMy first week of school was completely normal. I was expecting it to be horrible and in comparison high school is not that bad. My teachers are actually interesting and I have not gotten a ton of homework so far. My only problem is waking up in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI can relate with Audrey about excelling in this school to help me get to the college that I want to go to. I also agree with Buck about the first days of school being problem free.
These two weeks so far have been very exciting, but different. The classes are more challenging, but a lot more fun than in middle school. I hope that I can succeed here so I can go to a good school. At least that is what my goal is for High School.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with James, High School is ten letters.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Buck because I was also very nervous the first day. I really was hoping I didn't get lost. I didn't and so far it has been a good experience.
